China visa: last chance to collect passports from the old visa centres is noon on 30 October

The Chinese visa application centres in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata stopped taking new applications on 26 October, when China moved visa work in India to its embassy and consulates. Files that were already processed at the centres can still be picked up, but only until 12 noon on Friday, 30 October.

New applicants now complete an online review first and then hand in their passport and papers in person at the Chinese embassy or the consulate that covers their state, within 30 days of approval.

If your passport is still sitting at one of the old centres, check its status today and collect it before Friday noon. If you are applying fresh, start the online review well before your travel dates.

New Air India Express flights link Abu Dhabi with Amritsar and Goa

Air India Express has added two new routes from Abu Dhabi, to Amritsar and to Goa, as part of its winter schedule. Both started on 25 October with three flights a week each.

The Amritsar flight leaves in the evening and reaches Abu Dhabi just before midnight, about four and a half hours on an Airbus A320neo. That saves travellers from Punjab and Goa a change of planes on the way to the UAE capital.

If you live near Amritsar or Goa and are planning an Abu Dhabi or UAE holiday, check these direct flights first, and note they run only on some days of the week, so fix your dates around them.

Kochi now has a direct Air India Express flight to Bangkok

Air India Express has started non-stop flights between Kochi and Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport, running four times a week on a Boeing 737 from 25 October. It joins the Thai budget airlines already flying the route, so Kerala travellers now have more choice and more seats.

The flight takes a little over four hours. Check the timings carefully, as some departures and arrivals may fall late at night or very early in the morning.

If you are flying to Thailand from Kerala this winter, compare fares across the airlines on this route, and book a hotel that allows an early check-in if you land before dawn.

Mumbai's Terminal 1 has closed for rebuilding: domestic flights now use T2 or Navi Mumbai

Terminal 1 at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj airport stopped handling flights from 25 October so it can be torn down and rebuilt. The new terminal is not expected before 2029 or 2030.

Airlines that flew from T1, including IndiGo, SpiceJet, Alliance Air and Star Air, have moved those flights to Terminal 2 or to the new Navi Mumbai airport. Which one depends on the airline and the route.

If you fly from Mumbai, check the terminal and the airport on your booking before you leave home. Navi Mumbai is a separate airport with its own code (NMI), and the drive between the two can take well over an hour.

Haze from Indonesian fires is hitting Singapore and Malaysia trips

Smoke from forest fires in Sumatra and Borneo has covered parts of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore for weeks. Air quality in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore has been rated unhealthy on several days, and some flights between the two cities were cancelled.

Tour operators report cancellations and fewer bookings for November, and some Singapore sightseeing is being shortened or moved indoors on bad days.

If you have a Singapore or Malaysia trip coming up, check the daily air quality before you go, carry N95 masks for children and older family members, and keep a few indoor attractions in your plan. Travel insurance that covers delays is worth having.

Suggested trip: Malaysia, 4 days for two from Delhi, about ₹1,32,600

Frequently asked questions

How the estimates work, getting a quote, booking and more.

How does Loka Tours work?

Pick where you're going, when, and who's travelling, and you see an itemised budget straight away: flights, hotel, food, local transport, sightseeing, visa and insurance. Send us the trip and we'll reply with live prices, usually within a day. Once you confirm, we book it as a customised private trip or a packaged tour.

Are the prices on the site live?

No. They are typical costs for each month, worked out from published fares, hotel rates and ticket prices. They're for planning, not a quote. When you send us a trip, we check today's flight and hotel prices and send you a written quote.

What does the estimate include?

Return flights from your city (or land only if you choose), the hotel at the level you pick, food, local transport and transfers, the sightseeing you tick, the visa, travel insurance and a 10% buffer for shopping, tips and extras. Each line shows how it was worked out.

Why is my total different from the example on a destination page?

The example at the bottom of each destination page is for a couple flying from Delhi, staying in a midrange hotel next month, with the paid sights it lists. If you change the dates, travellers, departure city, hotel or sightseeing in the planner, the total changes with it.

How do I get a quote?

Open your trip, fill in "Get live prices for this trip" with your name, mobile and email, and send it. Your whole plan goes with the request, so you don't need to type it again. We usually reply within a day.

Can you plan a trip for more than 9 people?

Yes. The site prices up to 9 travellers online. For a bigger group, send a group request from the planner with the number of travellers and we'll price it by hand.

Do you book customised trips or packaged tours?

Both. After you confirm, we can book your plan as a private trip made for you, or as a packaged tour, for a solo traveller, a couple, a family or a group.

Can I plan a trip to more than one country?

Yes. Use Build a trip to add several destinations or locations in the order you'll visit them and get one estimate for the whole trip, or pick a ready-made trip under Multi-destination.

Do you help with visas?

Each destination page shows the visa needed for Indian passport holders and its typical cost, which is included in the estimate. Visa rules change, so check the official rules before you travel. Ask us in your quote request if you'd like help with the application.

What about payment, cancellation and refunds?

These depend on the airlines, hotels and tour operators in your trip, so we send the payment, cancellation and refund terms with your written quote, before you book anything.

Can I save a trip or share it with family?

Yes. Use Save quote to keep a trip in this browser, or Copy link to share it; the link opens the same plan on any device. Sign in to keep your saved quotes on all your devices.

Can I see prices in another currency?

Yes. Choose a currency at the top of the page and every price on the site changes to it.

Is my information safe?

We only use the details you send to reply to your request and plan your trip. See our privacy policy for what we collect and the choices you have.
