Planning a Singapore trip from India: what it costs and how many days you need
Singapore is one of the easiest first trips abroad from India. Flights are short, the city is clean and safe, getting around is simple, and there is plenty for children and grandparents as well as couples. It is not the cheapest place in Asia, though, so it helps to know where the money goes before you book.
How many days do you need?
Four to five days suits most first visits. That gives you one day for Sentosa, one for Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay, one for the Mandai parks (the zoo, Night Safari and Bird Paradise), and time for shopping and food. With young children, add a day so nobody has to rush. If you want to add Malaysia or Thailand, Singapore works well as the first stop.
What a trip costs
For a couple flying from Delhi and staying in a midrange hotel, a 4-day Singapore trip in December comes to about ₹1,85,900, or ₹92,950 per person. That covers return flights, the hotel, food, local transport, the attractions we pick for you, the visa, travel insurance and a 10% buffer for shopping and extras. The hotel and flights are the two biggest items; Singapore hotels cost more than most of Southeast Asia, so the hotel type you choose moves the total the most.

Attractions worth paying for
Singapore's big attractions are ticketed, and they add up quickly for a family. Typical adult prices:
- Universal Studios Singapore on Sentosa, a full day: about ₹5,395.
- Gardens by the Bay, both domes (Flower Dome and Cloud Forest): about ₹3,445. The outdoor gardens and the evening light show at the Supertrees are free.
- Night Safari at Mandai: about ₹3,640. Book a time slot, as evenings sell out in school holidays.
- S.E.A. Aquarium on Sentosa: about ₹2,860.
- Marina Bay Sands SkyPark for the view: about ₹2,340.
You don't need all of them. Pick two or three that suit your group, and fill the rest of the days with free things: the Supertree show, the Merlion and Marina Bay waterfront, Chinatown and Little India, and the light and water show at Marina Bay in the evening.
When to go
Singapore is warm all year, around 30 to 32°C, with short tropical showers in most months. November and December are the wettest. Prices are highest in Indian school holidays (May and June) and from Christmas to New Year. February, August and November are usually quieter and cheaper.
Visa for Indians
Indian passport holders need a visa for Singapore. It is an e-visa applied for through an authorised agent, and it costs about ₹2,800 per person. Apply a few weeks before you travel and carry a printout.
Tips that save money
- Use the MRT and buses with a contactless card instead of taxis for most trips.
- Eat at hawker centres. A good meal costs a fraction of a restaurant, and vegetarian food is easy to find in Little India.
- Buy attraction tickets online in advance; combo tickets for Sentosa or the Mandai parks are often cheaper than buying each one.
- Stay near an MRT station rather than right on Orchard Road or Marina Bay.
