Bali from India: where to stay, how many days and what a trip costs
Bali is a favourite with Indian couples and families alike: beaches, rice terraces, temples, good vegetarian food and hotels that are good value. Flights usually connect through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, so allow a full day each way.
Where to stay
- Seminyak and Kuta are close to the airport, with beaches, restaurants, shopping and Waterbom Bali. Good for a first night and for families.
- Ubud is green and cooler, with rice terraces, the Monkey Forest, temples, the Tegallalang swing and river rafting.
- Uluwatu in the south has cliffs, beaches, surfing, and the Uluwatu temple with its evening Kecak dance.
Splitting your stay between two areas, usually the beach and Ubud, saves long daily drives through Bali's traffic.
How many days do you need?
Five to six days in Bali is a comfortable first trip, after the travel days. Four days works if you stay in one area and take day tours. With a week or more you can add the Gili Islands for snorkelling, or Nusa Penida as a day trip.
What a trip costs
For a couple flying from Delhi and staying in a midrange hotel, a 4-day Bali trip in December comes to about ₹1,52,900, or ₹76,450 per person. That covers return flights, the hotel, food, local transport, the day tours we pick for you, the visa on arrival and tourist levy, travel insurance and a 10% buffer. Flights are the biggest single item; hotels and food in Bali are good value.

Activities and what they cost
- Ubud and rice terraces day tour from Seminyak or Kuta: about ₹3,180 per adult.
- Nusa Penida day trip by boat: about ₹4,770.
- Uluwatu temple and Kecak dance at sunset: about ₹795.
- Mount Batur sunrise trek: about ₹3,445.
- Waterbom Bali: about ₹2,624.
- Snorkelling with turtles on the Gili Islands: about ₹1,060.
Free and nearly free: the Ubud art market, the Campuhan ridge walk, Seminyak beach at sunset, Padang Padang and Melasti beaches near Uluwatu, and Tanah Lot temple at sunset for a small entry fee.
When to go
April to October is the dry season. July and August, and Christmas to New Year, are the busiest and most expensive. April to June and September to October are dry and calmer, which makes them the best value. November to March is the rainy season, usually with afternoon showers rather than all-day rain. Nyepi, the island-wide day of silence in March, closes the airport and keeps everyone indoors for a day.
Visa for Indians
Indian passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Bali, and there is also a Bali tourist levy. Together they come to about ₹3,500 per person. You can pay both online before you fly to skip the queue at the airport.
Tips that save money
- Hire a car with a driver for a day of sightseeing instead of booking separate tours.
- Eat at local warungs; Indian restaurants are easy to find in Kuta, Seminyak and Ubud.
- Book a villa with a private pool in Ubud; they often cost less than a beach resort room.
- Travel in May, June or September for dry weather without peak prices.
