Georgia from India: Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Kakheti and Batumi, how many days, and what a trip costs
Georgia has become one of the easiest "Europe-feel" trips for Indian travellers. Tbilisi is an old city of wooden balconies and sulphur baths, the Caucasus mountains at Kazbegi are a few hours' drive away, the Kakheti valley is full of vineyards and Batumi gives you a Black Sea beach town. Hotels and food cost much less than in Western Europe, and the visa is simple to get.
How many days do you need?
Plan on six to eight days. Give Tbilisi three days, including a half-day trip to Mtskheta and Jvari Monastery just outside the city. Spend one or two nights up in Kazbegi so you can see Gergeti Trinity Church in morning light and walk in the Juta valley. Add a day in Kakheti wine country around Sighnaghi. With eight days or more, finish with two days in Batumi on the coast; it's a long way from Tbilisi, so a short domestic flight or the train saves time over driving.
What a trip costs
For a couple flying from Delhi and staying in a midrange hotel, a 4-day Georgia trip in December comes to about ₹1,55,400, or ₹77,700 per person. That covers return flights, the hotel, food, local transport, the attractions we pick for you, the e-visa, travel insurance and a 10% buffer. Flights are the biggest part of the bill; once you land, Georgia is one of the cheaper places in this part of the world.

Things worth paying for
- Cable car to Narikala Fortress: about ₹176. It lifts you over the old town to the fortress walls, with the best view of Tbilisi. Walk back down through the lanes.
- Sulphur baths in Abanotubani: about ₹2,200. Book a private room for an hour in the brick-domed baths; it's a very Tbilisi way to end a day of walking.
- Mtskheta and Jvari Monastery trip: about ₹2,640, for the old capital and a hilltop church above two meeting rivers.
- Gergeti Trinity Church by 4x4: about ₹1,320. The church sits on a ridge under Mount Kazbek, and the jeep saves a steep climb.
- Gudauri paragliding: about ₹7,920, a tandem flight over the valleys on the way to Kazbegi. It depends on the weather, so keep it flexible.
- Kakheti wine tasting tour: about ₹3,520, a full day of vineyards, old cellars and the walled town of Sighnaghi. Non-drinkers still enjoy the views and the food.
- Argo cable car in Batumi: about ₹880, best at sunset, and the Batumi Botanical Garden: about ₹880.
Free and cheap things to do
Walk around Old Tbilisi in the evening and cross the Peace Bridge when it's lit up. In Kazbegi, the Juta valley walk costs nothing and gives you meadows and peaks with very few people. In Sighnaghi, walk along the old town walls and visit Bodbe Monastery nearby. In Batumi, stroll the long seaside boulevard to the moving Ali and Nino statue and spend a lazy afternoon on the beach.
When to go
May, June, September and October are the best months: mild, green, and in autumn you get the grape harvest in Kakheti. These are also the busiest. March, April, July, August and December are the regular season; July and August are hot in Tbilisi, with daytime highs around 31°C, but good for Batumi and the mountains. January, February and November are cold, with Tbilisi highs of around 7 to 13°C and snow in the mountains, so the road to Kazbegi can close for a while after heavy snowfall.
Visa for Indians
Indian passport holders need a visa for Georgia, and most people apply for the e-visa online before travel. If you hold a valid US, UK or Schengen visa or residence permit, you can usually enter Georgia without a separate visa; check that your visa will still be valid on your travel dates. Apply only on the official government e-visa site, and carry printed hotel bookings, your return ticket and insurance.
Tips that save money
- Use the Tbilisi metro and buses with a rechargeable travel card; rides cost very little.
- Share a car with a driver for the day to Kazbegi instead of booking separate tours; it lets you stop at viewpoints on the way.
- Eat Georgian food: khachapuri (cheese bread), lobio (bean stew) and vegetable dishes with walnut are cheap and good for vegetarians.
- Go in late spring or early autumn rather than peak summer for better hotel prices and comfortable weather.
